The citation reads as follows:
Headquarters, Headquarters Company and Band,
Support Command, 9th Infantry Division distinguished itself in support of
military operations in the Republic of Vietnam during the period 1 January 1968
to 31 December 1968. The officers and men of the unit demonstrated dynamic
leadership and exceptional foresight in providing outstanding logistical support
to assigned and attached units of the 9th Infantry Division and other allied
forces despite overwhelming obstacles and unique combat requirements inherent to
the fluid tactical situation. They exercised masterful command and control of
division logistical operations and guided subordinate units to unparalleled
levels of efficiency and effectiveness in their efforts to render the finest
supply and maintenance support possible. The personnel of the organization
judiciously utilized all available resources and capabilities in accomplishing
the monumental tasks of their assigned mission. The swift and competent
reactions to the communist attacks of the 1968 TET Offensives characterized the
manner with which Headquarters, Headquarters Company and Band, Support Command,
9th Infantry Division responded to the needs of the fighting forces. Realizing
the importance of civic actions to the ultimate success of the war effort, they
selflessly sacrificed untold time and materials in civil education and economic
needs of the Vietnamese people. Through their unrelenting perseverance and
singular initiative, the unit’s members materially advanced the free world
struggle against communist aggression in the Republic of Vietnam. The remarkable
Headquarters, Headquarters Company and Band, 9th Support Command, 9th Infantry
Division are in keeping credit upon themselves and the Armed Forces of the
United States.
