"Kid" Photos

"Dong"

"Dong lived in the little village next to Dong Tam where the dredge operated and when we were guarding the 'pipe' there, anytime we wanted a pineapple, coke or beer this little guy would hustle like crazy to get it."

This grouping of photos were taken by our Members during a time when war was raging all around them.  The "Kids" represented an innocence that we all began to lose when we were initially confronted with our own personal "Baptism of Fire".  May we all appreciate the efforts of the individual photographers who caught these images during a very difficult time in their lives.  Many were only teenagers themselves.

"Hey Mike, good idea! I used to give the kids all my food. And then I'd end up standing there with nothing.  I have one picture of a kid I had helping me fill sand bags at a fire support base outside Ben Tre.  I guess I gave the kid so much money the family invited me and 2 others over for dinner.  It was good. I've always wanted to go back and find them and I have a pretty good idea where to find them but just when I was making plans to go back, SARS broke out and they still have it. The photo is lousy, very blurry but you can see him sitting between my legs.  He was my little buddy! Cant even remember his name.  I also have a problem getting the picture to you because my copy machine is down.  I will be bringing photos to reunion. Are you going? Talk to you later Bro!!! Steve Luft."
