BID Patrol (Base Interior Defense) meant periodically throwing concussion grenades to protect the Mobile Riverine Base ships from enemy swimmers (sappers) attaching command or time detonated mines to the hulls.  This was a necessary, but pretty boring duty assignment for those who tossed the grenades. John Harris and Nick Mitschkowetz installing awning on APL-30 in Sept. 1968 at Cat Lo before transit up river.  Nick reports that sand bags were later added around the M60 and that area became the bridge.
